The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess - Scottsdale, Arizona
Reminiscent of a Spanish Colonial estate, the luxurious Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is situated in Scottsdale, Arizona, on 450 acres with the McDowell Mountains as a backdrop. This ultimate desert oasis is one of the Leading Hotels of the World and a AAA Five Diamond Resort. This resort indulges guests with two 18 hole Tournament Players Club golf courses, three swimming pools, seven tennis courts, Spa and Fitness Center, 7 boutiques and shops, and 61,000 square feet of extensive, flexible meeting and convention facilities. Adjoining the Scottsdale Princess are two championship golf courses operated by the Tournament Players Club, a subsidiary of the PGA Tour. Designed by the team of Tom Weiskopf, Jay Moorish with player consultant Howard Twitty, the Stadium Course is acclaimed annually since 1987 by the field of the Phoenix Open, PGA Tour Event. One of the most dramatic holes on the course is the par five 15th. Only 501 yards, it challenges all to have a go at hitting the green in two. Very similar in length to the 13th at Augusta, it is a reachable par 5 with water on the left side leading up to an island green, though, with it's bunkers in front and the lake to the left. But it's there for all to try. The Desert Course, opened August 4, 1987, was also designed by the team of Weiskopt, Moorish with player consultants Howard Twitty and Jim Colbert. Reminiscent of Scotland's courses, the Desert's fairways wind through the beautiful and challenging Sonoran Desert, where the game is "target golf". All-carry shots into tricky mountain winds are required to reach the brilliant green islands that are the fairways and greens. And perhaps the most picturesque hole is the 351-yard par four 8th. An elevated tee affords the golfer a splendid view of the valley with the magnificent McDowell Mountains beyond. With challenging mountain winds and larger greens than the Stadium Course, the shot that is an 8-iron one day on the Desert Course might easily be a 6-iron the next. Such variety, plus the ever-present desert challenging your every shot, makes the course an early favorite among players of all levels.
